Located just outside El Yunque Rainforest, Hacienda Monte Rey is a must-do camping experience for nature lovers. With over forty acres of land making up the entirety of the property, privacy is an understatement.

Out of the forty acres, fifteen make up Hacienda Monte Rey’s three camping sites available for guests. Each camping site has access to the Sabana River where the water comes straight from El Yunque. Guests are allowed to take a dip or just enjoy the natural sound of water flowing slowly through the rocks. Furthermore, guests are also provided with a picnic table, firewood, toilet, shower (with hot water), sink, and trash bins.

We spoke with Gerardo Monge, Hacienda Monte Rey’s owner, and host, to learn more about the property.

Gerardo has been slowly developing the area for more than two years. To his surprise, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought him a lot of business. “People are exhausted from spending so much time inside their homes. So they come here to get away from all of that for a moment”, Gerardo says.

Hacienda Monte Rey starts at $45 per night for four guests. Each additional guest is charged $12 per night up to a maximum of 25 guests per site. With a 93% recommendation rate on Hipcamp, you can feel confident about having a great stay.
