Do I Need Prior Axe Throwing Experience?

Since this is a totally new entertainment venue for Puerto Rico, you are probably wondering if you need any experience to throw sharp, heavy axes into a target.

“If you have no axe throwing experience, don’t worry, our staff will make sure to teach you all the basics. It’s surprisingly easy.”, said Thomas Bowen, Island Axe’s co-founder.

“We understand we’re the first and only venue in Puerto Rico like this. Our goal is to provide a fun but yet safe space for everyone when it comes to this new activity.”

Is Axe Throwing Safe?

“Absolutely”, commented Andrea Vélez, Thomas’ wife and also Island Axe’s co-founder.

“We made sure to carefully design our venue with safety measures as one of our main priorities.”, Andrea added.

Both Andrea and Thomas give their customers not just a lesson in axe throwing, but also information on how to have fun safely.

How Does Axe Throwing Work

The concept of axe throwing is simple. Players are stationed in a private lane twelve feet away from their target.

The target has a bullseye drawn into it, which helps players see where they need to chuck their axe.

One cool thing to know about the target is that it’s made out of soft wood, which allows the axe to stick when thrown. Usually, axe throwing venues need to pay close attention when it comes to the wood they use. If the wood is too soft, it’ll wear out quicker; too hard and the axe won’t stick and might even cause some damage to it.

In addition to the target, players will also notice a black mat between them and the target. This mat is a no-bounce mat, which means it prevents axes from bouncing when it hits the ground — this is another safety measure Island Axe has in place for their customers.

How Does Axe Throwing Scoring Work

Axe throwing scoring works just like any other game that has a bullseye-style target. Players are awarded points depending on what areas they hit.

The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins. The staff will give each group a board to keep track of scores.

Covid-19 Safety

At the moment, Island Axe will not be asking customers for proof of vaccination. This means they are currently working with a 50% capacity.

However, customers will be required to wear masks and temperature checks are taken at the entrance. Furthermore, the staff will be thoroughly disinfecting surfaces between customer visits and axe usage.

Food, Drinks, and Karaoke

Besides having an amazing time throwing some sharp axes, customers will also be able to enjoy a full bar that also includes local beers, wings and homemade fries.

For more entertainment, Island Axe hopes to provide its guests with karaoke and live music very soon.
